Turley “Duarte” Zinfandel, 2011 California, Contra Costa
last week we took it upon ourselves to open several different Turley Zin vineyards (yeah, we’re spoiled), and the runaway favorite was this 2011 Duarte! of course every Turley bottle has its own charms, but this one was particularly balanced and lip-smackin’. add in a 91-93 point rating from Robert Parker, and our favoritism is officially confirmed. it strikes a gorgeous balance of bright red raspberry and cherry, backed by deep tones of blackberry, black pepper, bitter chocolate, roasted coffee and a bit of licorice. the folks at Turley source from the oldest pre-Prohibition vineyard sites in California, and they have always been masters of this varietal. if you’re a Zin-fanatic this is definitely one worth trying!
